In an event yesterday at Yerba Buena Center For the Arts, Apple boss Steve Jobs revealed a new generation tablets, iPad 2 which posses some new and innovative features to fight back its lost ground from Android powered tablets. Does it live up to the hype?

According to Jobs, the design hasn’t just been tweaked, it’s all new from the bottom up. Here is the list of new features added to the new iPad 2.

• There’s a new processor, Apple’s custom A5 dual-core system-on-a-chip. That will be two times faster than the original iPad and its graphics will be “up to nine times faster” than that of the iPad 1.
• New iPad 2 is thinner — about 33% thinner. Thinner than the iPhone 4. It’s 8.8 mm, as opposed to 13.4 mm for the original iPad. And it’s slightly lighter at 1.3 lbs.
• It will come in two colours; Black and White, from March 11 in the US, and the 3G version will be available on Verizon and AT&T. Other countries will hold of it from March 25.
• The battery life is still in the 10-hour range. And the price is the same: $499 for the basic 16GB Wi-fi version, heading up to $829 for the 3G model with 64GB.
• The iPad 2 will sport dual webcams. The rear-facing camera features a 720p HD resolution, and the front-facing camera features VGA resolution.
• The iPad is now HDMI compatible, which means you can plug it into your TV or a large screen.
• Apple has also made a couple of cool new iPad 2 cases. They have magnets on them that attach automatically to the screen. The iPad 2 will automatically wake when the case is opened, and the case folds back to put you in prime typing position. Cost: $39 for the plastic version, $69 for leather.
• iOS 4.3 features performance improvements in Safari, thanks to the addition of the Nitro JavaScript engine. It also brings iTunes home sharing, which lets the iPad 2 play content over Wi-Fi from your other networked devices.
• Like the iPhone and iPod Touch, the iPad 2 features an integrated gyroscope. Combined with the device’s compass and accelerometer, the iPad 2 will be able to take advantage of a wider variety of games than its predecessor.

Sometimes its sounds astonishing that when second generation iPad has not been officially announced yet, folks in the tech world are already talking about it’s release date. Everyone is expecting iPad 2 to be released very soon after a iPad 2 model was found in Consumer Electronic Show this year.

According to MacNotes.net, iPad 2 is set to release on either 2nd or 9th April. The iPad 2 will sell US-only for three months, and Apple Store-only for up to half a year. In July, more countries will follow. Walmart, Best Buy and Co. maybe have to wait until October until they are allowed to sell Apples new tablets.

I’m not an Apple fan boy, still I waited for a iPhone 4 for 5 hours (3am – 8am). In London, I saw people to more than 24 hours in queue in front of Apple Store at Regent Street. Are you a fan boy? How long you can wait in a queue to buy an iPad?
